Mistletoe is a small evergreen shrub or small tree native to Europe and northern Asia. It has long been treasured as an offering to the gods and the humans that grew it. For example, in Germany, mistletoe was considered sacred and was often hung in the home to bring prosperity and good fortune. In some places, this is still done today. The oldest mention of the plant is in a Sumerian text dating to about 2100 BC. In ancient Greece, it was associated with the goddess Artemis and was used to protect and bring good luck
