How Jesus Is The Heart Of Christmas: Why We Celebrate On December 25th
Jesus is the heart of Christmas
The Birth of Christ
a) Why did the wise men travel so far to worship Jesus? The “wise men” are not the scholars of your New Testament Christian mythology books. They were shepherds. They had to travel to a certain place to see and worship the newborn King. Even after Jesus’s birth they didn’t immediately return to their home but waited for a specific number of days before returning to Bethlehem. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph stayed at the manger where the baby Jesus had been born for 40 days.
b) Who is this baby and why did the wise men travel so far to worship him? The wise men were very important Jewish leaders. To worship Jesus as a King, they had to travel to Bethlehem.
Why December 25th?
If you have any historical or biblical background on Christmas, you would probably know that December 25th is the date that was established to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I don’t think any reasonable person could dispute that fact.
There are many theories as to why December 25th was chosen, but it isn’t important to get too bogged down in the details. What’s important to know is that there is historical and biblical evidence that supports December 25th being chosen to celebrate the birth of Jesus. We just don’t usually think about it that way.
Did you know that, according to the Bible, Jesus was born in the summer, and not in winter?
If you were told that, you probably would have assumed that it was no big deal.
Celebrating Christmas as a Christian
I love being a Christian. I can't think of any better way to spend my time than worshiping the one true God, loving Him, and loving others. I enjoy reading my Bible. I often look for meaning in the things that I do. I enjoy engaging in conversations with other Christians about what the Bible says. I can't think of any better time than today to celebrate my faith.
Whether you are a Christian, non-Christian, or an atheist - everyone who chooses to celebrate the birth of our Saviour on this day is doing so for good reason.
One reason many atheists choose to celebrate Christmas is to show that they can celebrate Christmas in a meaningful way.
What Does a Christmas Tree Mean to Christians?
It is a beautiful time of year, especially when you get to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Did you know that the Christmas tree is one of the oldest symbols used in Christian liturgy? Interestingly enough, it isn't always a symbol that we associate with the holiday, but it can be traced back to pagan roots as well. If you look back at the origins of the Nativity story, the shepherds who visited the Child's birthplace found a large and delicious, fruit-laden tree. To protect their child, they took the branches, cut them into pieces, and stored them in a cave in the mountains. The tradition of decorating trees was carried on by the early Christians.

If you'd like to learn more about the concept of Incarnation, one way to read the Christmas story is to see that Jesus didn't just give up his status as the Son of God to become the Messiah. His purpose was to join us all together. His purpose was to save us, from a completely different set of experiences than anything we have experienced.
